Detection and Interception of Drones

Illegal use of drones may pose a serious threat to civilian and military facilities. With the rapid development of drone detection and interception technology, the combination of multiple technologies will become the main trend.

1. Detecting Drones

For drone real-time detection technology, active radar detection technology and passive spectrum detection have their own advantages and disadvantages, and are the main means of detection.

The process includes detecting the radiation spectrum of drone, comparing with the characteristic signals in the database, confirming the drone's model, and then counteracting it by electronic jammer.

Detecting drone's reflection or scattering signals from other signals (such as radio and television signals) is also an effective method. The biggest advantage of spectrum detection technology is that it has no radiation.

2. Countering Drones

For drones countermeasure technology, the means are various, such as electronic jamming, destruction and capture. Electronic jamming is a fast, effective and low-cost method.

Electronic jamming interception technology includes barrage jamming and deceptive jamming.

Electronic barrage jamming is a kind of jamming method that transmits jamming signals to cover the spectrum of drone signals, leading to reduced or loss of normal working ability of the communication receivers. When using barrage jamming equipment, we should pay attention to the radiation to human body while working; meanwhile, it will cause strong interference to the electronic equipment with the same frequency in the range of action.

Deceptive jamming, including communication deception and navigation deception, causes communication errors or operational errors by imitating the drone's communication signals.

Communication deception first detects and parses the data link of the target drone. If all the parameters of frequency, bandwidth, modulation mode and communication protocol of the whole data link can be cracked, drones takeover can be realized.

Satellite navigation signal deception causes drones yaw by transmitting false GPS/GLONASS/BD satellite navigation signal in the destination area.

Using deceptive jamming, it is better to take over the data link and release false navigation signals, capture drones and obtain evidence.

3. Destroying and Capturing Drones

Laser damage and interceptor bomb destruction are important choices for threatening drones.

For low-speed micro-rotorcraft drone, the drone carrying the net gun is a practical acquisition method.

4. Selecting Detection and Interception Means

The choice of detection and countermeasure depends not only on the environmental conditions, time and importance of the area to be guarded against, but also on the threat degree of the object to be guarded against. A single means or a combination of several means can be adopted according to the needs of the task.
